Posted on Aug 26, 2013 by Luke James
Just as you have different clothes for different occasions, choosing the right shoes for each sport is an important consideration to maximise your performance and minimize the potential for injury. A shoe made for basketball is very different, in a number of ways, from a shoe made for tennis or running. Whether you choose to keep in shape by walking, hiking, running or biking, we take a look at the best shoes for every workout.
With thousands of options afforded to consumers, selecting new shoes for working out can be an arduous decision. As technology in footwear improves, the already dizzying array of options also increases. Whether you’re roughing it off-road, battling through your first half marathon or competing in an intense sporting contest, read on to find out the best shoe for you.
To demystify the process somewhat, we’ve provided a simple glossary for those that need an introduction to the basics:
Insole: The removable foam insert that sits under and conforms to the shape of your foot. Sometimes referred to as footbeds, or inner soles.
Outsole: The bottom part of the shoe that comes into contact with the ground. Usually made from carbon rubber, the treads on outsoles differ greatly according to the purpose of the shoe.
Midsole: Generally constructed from foam, the midsole provides cushioning and support for feet and determines the rigidity and structure of the shoe.
Upper: The top part of any shoe, the upper holds the shoe into the foot and keeps it secure.
